STORM 2026 · April 11th, 2026
Navigate a busy environment, install batteries, generate electricity, and climb to safety before the flash flood arrives.
STORM, the Student Teleoperated Robotics Mission, is an annual intercollegiate robotics competition hosted by the Sooner Competitive Roobtics at the University of Oklahoma. Power Flash is our third year running the event, and our biggest yet with teams.
Each year, STORM centers around a real world scenario that robots must navigate entirely via remote operation. Operators control their robots from a separate room using only a WiFi connection and the sensor data their robot sends back. This year's challenge, Power Flash, puts teams in the role of emergency responders: navigate a busy field, install battery banks, generate electricity to restore power infrastructure, and finally climb to safety before flash flooding hits.
STORM is designed to be accessible and affordable. Robots are built from off-the-shelf components with no extensive robotics background required, making it a great fit for student organizations, capstone design courses, and anyone curious about real world engineering. Registration is free and open to any university or post-secondary institution.
